Sora, Donald, and Goofy have been sleeping for a year while they regain their memories. In the meantime, {{khwiki|Roxas}} has been living in {{khwiki|Twilight Town}}, trying to understand the strange dreams he's been having of Sora's first adventure, whom he does not know of. During a battle in Hollow Bastion, they encounter Xemnas, who they learn is the leader of Organization XIII, and is using the Heartless to get Kingdom Hearts. A member of the Organization himself, Axel appears to be defecting from the Organization, as he tells them that every Heartless slain by the Keyblade releases a heart, which the Organization seeks to build Kingdom Hearts.
