This page deals with content related with the function and work of the Square Enix Wiki. This page has no content relevant or pertinent to Square Enix, as per the Coverage Policy.

This is the Manual of Style page. It is a basic guide on how to correctly style pages on the Square Enix Wiki. Please discuss any discrepancies or mistakes on the talk page

General

  • All articles should be titled by the full official name, except for companies, which should be by its common name.
E.g.: An article on the first game in the Chrono series should be titled Chrono Trigger
E.g.: An article on Square Enix should be titled Square Enix, not Square Enix Holdings, LTD.
  • Topics of similar title should be titled the same, following with an identifier in parentheses, lowercased. The original topic should be an disambiguation page.
E.g.: Articles the game and series titled Kingdom Hearts should be created and titled as Kingdom Hearts (game) and Kingdom Hearts (series). Kingdom Hearts should be an disambiguation page.
  • Introductory paragraphs should quickly define the subject. The subject should be in bold in the first sentence of the article. In the case of companies, the official company name may be used in parentheses. Identifiers in parentheses in the page title should not be used as part of the subject name.
E.g.: Square Enix (Officially: Square Enix Holdings, LTD.) is a Japanese video game publisher and developer.
E.g.: Kingdom Hearts is a video game series developed by Square Enix and Disney Interactive Studios.
NOT: Kingdom Hearts (series) is a video game series developed by Square Enix and Disney Interactive Studios
  • Articles should follow the Coverage policy. Articles that violate this policy will be deleted, and the user will be punished in accordance to the User Account policy
  • Do not use abbreviations
E.g.: Square Enix NOT SE; Dragon Quest NOT DQ
  • All articles should link to their appropriate pages on Wikipedia in the Additional Links section.
  • All game-related articles should have links to appropriate affiliate wikis, if they exist, in the infobox.
  • The wiki's official language is American English. Please follow appropriate grammar and spelling, as per American English. This includes using an "'s" (apostrophe-s) for singular possessive nouns, using a comma before the final "and" in a list, and using appropriate ending marks inside quotation marks, unless otherwise appropriate.
E.g.: Xemnas's NOT Xemnas'; Sora, Kairi, and Riku NOT Sora, Kairi and Riku; Did he say "Come here"? NOT Did he say "Come here?"
  • Game titles must be italicized. Series titles must be italicized as well.
  • Do not double-link in articles. Only wikilink in first appearance, unless directing to specific sections of an article.
  • Link characters, locations, and other in-universe topics to the respective page on the respective affiliate wiki.

Article Maintenance

  • Mark articles for deletion using {{Delete}} only after a discussion has been held on the article's talk page.
  • If an article should be merged, use {{Merge}}. It should be discussed on the talk page of the article that will cease to be, as it will essentially be deleted.
  • Do not rename articles without first discussing the reasons for doing so on its talk page.
  • If an article is incomplete, be sure to add the {{stub}} template to the sections or the bottom of the article.

Games

Main Article: Square Enix Wiki:Articles/Games
  • At all times, use the full official title of the game
  • Be sure to use the {{InfoGame}} template on all game articles
  • All series articles must use the appropriate series navigation template at the bottom of the page. If none exists, use the navigation template of the publishing company, whether it's {{NavSquare}}, {{NavEnix}}, {{NavSquareEnix}}, {{NavEidos}}, or {{NavTaitos}}.
  • Games must have Category:Games added to them, as well as a category corresponding to the series.
E.g.: An article on Chrono Cross needs to have the Category:Games added as well as Category:Chrono
  • Be sure to use the appropriate formatting on game articles, and add information to all sections.
  • Be sure to write in out-of-universe perspective, similar to Wikipedia. An in-universe perspective should be taken only in the plot summary.
  • Though articles should link to their respective affiliate wikis for more information, sections must be complete and thorough. Articles must be complete and detailed in their summaries of plots, allowing for a basic understanding of the game's story without defeating or competing with the affiliate wiki regarding content or details.

Series

Main Article: Square Enix Wiki:Articles/Series
  • Use the official name of the series
  • Be sure to use the {{InfoSeries}} template on all series articles
  • All game articles must use the appropriate series navigation template at the bottom of the page.
  • Be sure to use the appropriate formatting on series articles, and add information to all sections.

Characters/Locations

  • Characters and locations of a game must be listed in a subpage to the game.
E.g.: Characters and locations for Chrono Trigger must be listed in Chrono Trigger/Characters and Locations
  • If terms exist for "Characters" or "Locations" that are more accurate in-game, those may be used as redirects.
E.g.: "World" is a more accurate term for "Locations" in the Kingdom Hearts series. Kingdom Hearts (game)/Worlds may be created as a redirect to Kingdom Hearts (game)/Characters and Locations.
  • Consult with editors of the respective affiliate wikis in regards to the best way to organize characters and locations.
E.g.: Characters and locations for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep would be best organized by listing characters under location of residence, with major characters being listed separately under "Main Characters". This may not be true with other games in the series, or with other series.
